NEWS!
4/4 heart pecan arrived today!

HIGHLIGHT: Custom Milling
This big, hard maple veneer log was recently slabbed for wide, clear tops. The cut sheet provides a map for the sawmill to follow, yielding both table tops and mantle pieces. The green wood will be stacked and dried to 6% or 7%.

Usually sold alongside hickory as the same wood, this material is the true Southern heart pecan.  We called mills around the country for months before we could find a source that even knew the difference between the two.  The stock is predominantly clear with a  rosy red color and white sapwood.  Known for its strength and rigidity, the wood is hard and heavy.  Being a wood of some substance, pecan requires care in machining and a bit of effort to work the surface to the soft luster it is capable of. It takes an excellent oil finish.  It is used in furniture, cabinetry, flooring and decorative veneers. (Pricing on pecan starts at $3.80 a board foot - #5192)

Let's talk about moisture content:
We are often asked if our wood is dry.  The question has different answers depending on what area of the country you come from.  We sometimes get `dry` wood from the East Coast.  It will be 10% moisture or more and we call it just that `East Coast dry`.  If we are going to ship lumber to the East Coast, 9% - 10% is often plenty dry.  Wood can reach equilibrium with the environment of coastal areas at moisture levels of up to 14%.  Here in Colorado, our semi-arid, high desert climate wood will air dry in a covered shed to 6% - 7% or less,  what we call "Rocky Mountain Dry."  Wood at this moisture content is dry enough for almost any use.

Wood comes to us green, kiln dried and everywhere in between.  Extra thick stock takes years to dry if it ever does.  Upon request we will check moisture on any of our stock to be sure it works for your application. Check out the Lumber moisture content at graduated humidity table on our website to find the equilibrium moisture content at a specific relative humidity.
